vnc session is not exiting at logout

Dear fellows,

I setup a vnc server here, uncommented the lines SESSION_MANAGER and the exec of xinitrc at $USER/vnc/xstartup to allows a full desktop to the user.

The problem is, whem the user logouts from the system (FC5/Gnome), all windows/programs are finished, leaving only a empty background.

The vnc session never ends.

If we close the vnc client, and run it again, it gets the same empty background.

In the server side, the process Xvnc is still running for that user.

The only way to get a fresh session is restarting the whole vncserver.

Anyone knows how to finish a vnc session ? Why the logout button on gnome desktop is not working ?

thanks,

I don't exit from the Window Manager on my VNC sessions - I just close the VNC client. There's a password for VNC access on my system, so I'm prompted for that password the next time the VNC client is opened, but I don't login to the GUI again.

Hey gilead,

If you try to logout, will you have success ? Or the session will hang, just like mine ?

The real proble is that session eats CPU and memory a lot ! With 7 hanged sessions my machine becomes unusable.

And we never use more than 2 sessions at the same time. We are just a buch of people who needs occasional remote graphical access to the server.

Yes, once the window manager is closed, it stays closed until the VNC sever is restarted. I haven't tried restarting the window manager though.

Now I just leave the session running and don't try to close the window manager.
