VNC Question

On the novell computers at my school I cannont access my computer at home it says "Connection Refused (10061)"

But yes on the Libarys computers that don't have novell it connects and works just fine.

So is there anything I can do to some how I can get VNC working with Novell and all their nub blocks?

could also be in the routing at your school. that system may just not be allowed to access the ports required for VNC. sounds like you will need to talk with the IT department.

...or don't try to do things you're more than likely not meant to be doing inthe first place.

I'm also wondering about this... I don't see anything wrong with trying to acess your home PC from school, actually I could find that very useful for getting homework and such... That's perfectly legit.

Anyway, I also had a suspicion that the school just wont let those specific ports in (VNC defaults at 5900) but what if you tried using like port 21 or port 80 on VNC or something? Its just that whenever you try and do that VNC won't work at all, it just times out whether your at school or not... Any ideas?

it's not perfectly legitimate if your school say it's not. it's their private network, it's their right to control it as they see fit. feel free to donate a few cisco switches to their LAN, maybe they'd open a port or two for you then...

well put. if those ports are blocked, then it is most likely for a reason. as i stated talk with the IT department or just deal with.

as for things you could do when getting to your PC on the OUTSIDE of their network, access prohibited sites, start transfers into a private network from an UNTRUSTED system, etc...

this is not saying that is what you are doing, but those are some very legit reasons why an IT department may lock down specific parts of their network.

Yeah the right ports (Port 5901, 5902, 5903...etc depending on which desktop) are closed with the novell thing.

i think we're not connecting at some level, maybe it's the numbers in your username or something... do not try to do this. do not want to do this. get permission.

Red face

try to make the server at 80 or try IT department to allow ->22(ssh) and that's kind of solution

Well I already can gain admin access through novell. I don't wanna mess up their network from school I just wanna access my computer, and all the files and bad sites will be on MY computer. There has to be somthing I can try to do. But i'll probably get caught hah.
