VNC over lan but not Internet?
Hi all im a linux noob and im having a mixture of joy and happiness with its use, with some help from you guys and reading lots i have managed to get SAMBA and vnc up and running and my P2P stuff. But recently i have hit a bit of a wall.
I cant seem to connect to my vnc session over the internet, it works fine over the LAN but not over the internet. I have set my router up to port forward so im confused. I have read a few posts but they go about SSH which kills me. wares Mandrake 9.2 x0rfbserver I am not really concerned about secruity (as you can tell about me using VNC) i only use the pc as a P2P server and i wish to be able to connect from work to it! any pointers would be appreciated...many thanks |
Re: VNC over lan but not Internet?
The work firewall perhaps? The "if you do x, y or z dodgy things on our network you're in trouble" rules?
Check with your sysadmin / usage policies at work, otherwise he may kill you if he finds out from another (firewall logs) source. Of course, if you say...... Quote:
Remote access for work purposes is one thing, p2p is a whole new kettle of LART. |
heheh i see what you mean.......i work for the IT Dept. at work and they already hate me for sending 100mb email attachments and thus clogging internal mail. lol
i dont think work firewall affects it cause it worked fine when pc was running w2k. And i cant connect from my other pc using the internet.....very weird. does x0frbserver by deafult supposed to work over internet, |
