VNC - "gnome-session" breaks metacity

(or, breaks my windows manager)

ubuntu edgy.
tightvnc.

Whenever I VNC into my box at home, I get the terminal window with grey background, so I type, "gnome-session". This works fine, but whenever I get home, my windows manager is broken, and I have to type "metacity --replace".

Sometimes, I need to desktop, so this sucks. any ideas?

Inside of the user account that launches /usr/bin/vncserver should be a ~/.vnc/xstartup file. This file contains the command to execute when launching vncserver. Insert 'gnome-session' into this file to have vncserver load gnome instead of the generic window manager (twm iirc).

Also, resolution of the gnome-session can be set by editing /usr/bin/vncserver. Look for the $geometry variable at the top of the script. Modifying $depth (color depth, e.g. 8/16/24-bit) can help with slower connections.
