VMware Workstation 5 with FC5

Kernel=2.6.17-1.2157_FC5

I got the rpm and installed vmware but during the configuration it says it has to compile some modules in order to work upon which I am asked to give it the directory of my kernel header files. I installed the kernel headers with "yum install kernel-devel-2.6.17-1.2157_FC5" and everything went great, then I told it the directory and it said that the headers do not match the current running kernel. uname -a says it is the kernel though.

I've read similar posts related to the EXACT same issue, but never a solution, someone with experience in the issue pls direct me... From what I hear it is a simple solution.

This is corrected in the VMWare update, which you can download here. The file you want is called "vmware-any-any-update102.tar.gz".

After you download the file, as root:

tar xvzf vmware-any-any-update102.tar.gz
cd vmware-any-any-update102
./runme.pl

Respond to the prompts, and it will now work correctly.
