VMware with Vista Host - Ubuntu guest can't connect.

Host: Fully updated Vista Premium, wireless connection to Linksys router.

Guest: Hardy Heron, not yet updated (no connection...)

No file /etc/resolv.conf is found.
I cannot connect to the internet, and can't find a good tutorial for this scenario.

Does anyone have a link to one or know offhand how to get ubuntu to play nice with vista?

Getting tired of Windows, but I'm a gamer... just trying to get the best of both worlds :P

Thanks in advance,
-SS

What kind of network connection does your vm use? Vmware Server (don't know about other versions) gives you four choices: Bridged, NAT, host-only, or custom. I find that switching from Bridged to NAT or vice versa usually works.

Hey, sorry for taking so long to get back to you.

Yes it offers the four choices, I'm trying to configure the Bridged option.

Is there a tutorial on this somewhere? I tried getting windows to connect from my linux box, and I couldn't get that to play nice either lol.

There must be something I'm missing...

You haven't specified which VMWare. I have VMWare Workstation running here in my Linux box, hosting both Windows and other Linux distros, and networking works flawlessly. I set nothing up, just answered the questions when the vmware config utility (vmware_config.pl) was deploying the installation. It configured samba for an internal guest to host connection, and bridged the whole thing so that my guest operating systems talk fully transparently on my LAN and on the Internet.

I believe it's called VMWare Server.

Perhaps I need to dl workstation.. I hope there's a windows version.
I'll go look into that. Thanks!

Workstation is a paid-for version.
Paid for version works straight out of the box heh... figures
