VMware sound issue with Cmedia 8738 pci card

I have VMware installed on my Kubuntu 6.06 release, with windows 98 as a guest OS. I would much rather have w2k or Xpoop as my guest OS, but every time I attempt to install them or get them installed, I get an error popup saying it cant initialize the sound due to the driver/device being already in use. Does anyone know anything about this or a possibility on how to fix it?

System Specs:

AMD Sempron64 2600+
ECS K8M800 M2 (v3)
768mb DDR 400
200gb Maxtor SATA
120gb Maxtor IDE
ATI Radeon 9200
Cmedia PCI 8738 6ch

various other random bits connected via usb

Does this error show up all the time? I see it only when using sound on the host. I have two sound cards and assign dsp1 to the vmware machine, to resolve the conflict.
For a software fix the documentation might provide some clues.

To answer your question, yes it is all the time. What throws me off is that when I have win98 as my guest, it does not do that... only on 2k or XP. I wonder what the difference is? Thanks for the pointers and advice... will try that...
