VMware install virtual console problem

I installed VMware server beta 3 using ubuntu linux as the host.

I have Winxp in a guest window and when I try to add other linux distro's

I get stuck on which partition to install it. I have hda as my boot, hda2 as my swap, and

hda3 as my root. Any ideas ???

If I recall correctly "normal procedure" would be to create a Vmware virtual disk (vmdk) and mount that to install the guest OS. You also should be able to install a guest OS directly to a host OS harddisk partition but for that you would need to free space first. With respect to concurrent access I would suggest moving host OS swap and vmdk's to a separate harddisk. This also benefits host OS integrity as in involuntarily overwriting stuff :-]

before you go on installing a new guest os, you should create a new virtual machine. whilst you are creating a new virtual machine, VMware asks where and what size you want to create the disk that will store this guest os. create a folder in any partition that has enough free space or if you have the liberty follow unspawn directions and use a separate disk or atleast a separate partition dedicated to vmware machines. that is all you have to do. even if you create the new disk on some already in use linux partition it should not be a problem AFAIK.

Thanks for the help all. I ended up creating a new partition specifically for the vmware machines. It fixed my problem.
