vmware creating blank iso image

Hi I run xp in vmware on a linux box and quite often use iso files instead of a physical cdrom disks.

Is it possible to create some sort of blank iso file that programs running in vmware like itunes can burn to.
eg. so they think there is a physical blank disk in the drive but it is just a iso file?

VMware does not have that feature. Use a CD or DVD rewritable disk. Though you can look into VMware's SDK kit or find Windows programs that creates a virtual drive that can output to image files.

Basically you want a virtual burner. Seems to me it wouldn't matter if VMWare supported it; if you could produce a program (a virtual device driver) in Linux that reported itself as a CD Burner, then you could tell VMWare to mount that device.

I am not aware of any such piece of code out there, but it would be worth googling. Maybe even on this board we could specify then possibly write such a thing...
