VMWare

I have a dualboot box - Win98 and Linux with vmware 3.0 installed. When trying to install WM Tools with Win98 acting as a guest system nothing happens.

Question: how to install vm tools and what must happen during the installation process?

Herm give me more detail!!!
What's your distribution? Are you trying to load an existing Win98 guest system or to create a new one? Or do you try to load your existing Win98 installation?

Ok, I saw this problem too... Make sure you load the right cd-rom device, vmtools, load as a cd-rom in the virtual machine. If you have a cd-writer, I think you must choose cd-rom (RAW). Also, make sure you have the last version of VmWare, I know some old version have some problem loading vmtool.

As for the tools, you can install them easily I had no problem with them at all.

But I still have one bug, I cant hear any sound from windows ( using vmware from linux ) can someone tell us how to fix this.

I don't think RedHat is the problem. Vmware should work on any Linux distrib, with few config.

There is no problem installing VM Tools when W98 installation is on a virtual disk. But when i use an existing W98 installation, VM Tools won't install.
The version of the linux disribution and vmware itself has nothing to do with this as long as it is all working with no errors, i think.

Do normal users have permission to play sounds? Do you normally have sound in X? Check the permissions on /dev/dsp if you don't.

(Usually /dev/dsp is writable for group 'sound' and you can add everyone who has to be able to use it to that group)
