VLC : Problem with cdda

Hi there,

I can't read audio cd's with VLC (see the error message below).
I don't know if it's relative to my hardware or my distro, so i posted here.

I have no problem with mounting a classic cdrom/dvdrom, and cdparanoia can extract the tracks.

Code:
gruik@gruentoo ~ $ vlc
VLC media player 0.9.8a Grishenko
[00000001] main libvlc debug: VLC media player - version 0.9.8a Grishenko - (c) 1996-2008 the VideoLAN team

[00000329] main input error: open of `cdda:///dev/sr0' failed: could not create access: no access module matched "cdda"
As you can see, VLC seems to have been built with "cdda" feature

My main cd/dvd drive : /dev/sr0
Code:
gruik@gruentoo ~ $ ls -l /dev | grep sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root         3 déc.  9  2008 scd0 -> sr0
brw-rw---- 1 root cdrom  11,   0 déc.  9  2008 sr0
I'm in the "cdrom" group
Code:
gruik@gruentoo ~ $ id gruik
uid=1000(gruik) gid=1000(gruik) groupes=1000(gruik),10(wheel),18(audio),19(cdrom),27(video),85(usb),100(users),35(games)
Any ideas?
I use Gentoo on a 64bits multilib system

Thanks

This may seem counter-intuitive, but have you tried MPlayer?

It is a great alternative to VLC. If you can download it and get it going, you can eliminate if the problem is, in fact, VLC, or you have some general error with your system.

From what I've seen in your post, VLC is probably looking externally for a cdda.a or cdda.so in your /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib. Maybe you need to pass some extra commandline option if you want to force it to use built-in cdda, instead of external? Or vice versa?

Thanks

Well, mplayer doesn't work better ("No stream found to handle url cdda:///dev/sr0")

I have no libcdda.so or .a, but i have these files
Code:
$ ls /usr/lib/libcdda* -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 90584 août  2 15:55 /usr/lib/libcdda_interface.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    27 août  2 15:55 /usr/lib/libcdda_interface.so -> libcdda_interface.so.0.10.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    27 août  2 15:55 /usr/lib/libcdda_interface.so.0 -> libcdda_interface.so.0.10.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 65248 août  2 15:55 /usr/lib/libcdda_interface.so.0.10.0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 41092 août  2 15:55 /usr/lib/libcdda_paranoia.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    26 août  2 15:55 /usr/lib/libcdda_paranoia.so -> libcdda_paranoia.so.0.10.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    26 août  2 15:55 /usr/lib/libcdda_paranoia.so.0 -> libcdda_paranoia.so.0.10.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 35064 août  2 15:55 /usr/lib/libcdda_paranoia.so.0.10.0
