VLC No Audio


I recorded some videos on my cell phone then downloaded them to the computer. VLC will play the video but no sound. Below is the message vlc display while the video is playing.

No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "samr". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.


Any ideas on fixing this?

Apparently you are not the only one with this problem, as the first result on Google describes it exactly:

Skimming the topic, it looks like the decoder is not included with the regular VLC distributions for legal reasons, and if you want it you will need to build VLC from source and manually enable it.

I have not looked but
The mplayer 2010 codec pack might have it

Thanks guys. I wonder how hard it is to compile it? I guess I'll look into it.

on most distros it is very strait forward it build vlc

the instructions will be on the wiki
