I have a little problem with VLC. When I open a DVD without menu it starts playing, but the image looks like a tube TV where the synchronization is messed up. Selecting a deinterlace mode fixes that, but it would be nice if I could select a deinterlace mode as a default so I don't have to change this setting every time I pop in a movie.
When I open a DVD with menus, the menu image is messed up in the same way, and when I select a deinterlace mode while the DVD menu is displayed, the video window simply disappears. If I click the "start" button in the DVD menu (sometimes it's still possible to recognize it), the DVD starts playing in garbled mode. Then I can change the deinterlace mode, the picture becomes pretty, and I can then use the nav features to get to the menu of the DVD and it's displayed properly. Although the mouse-over events (eg highlight) on the buttons don't seem to work anymore.
Does anybody know how to fix that?
System used: Ubuntu 7.04, Matrox P650 video card, VLC 0.8.6

Make the changes you need to the vlcrc file. Selecting the Show hidden files option in your filemanager should reveal the hidden .vlc folder, the file you require is in there.
