VLC-choppy playing

I'm using VLC to play some DVD's but it's all choppy and pauses and skips parts. The audio is fine however. I'm running openSUSE 10.2

Check to see if you have dma enabled on the dvd drive. Open a console and run:

$ su
<enter root password>
# hdparm /dev/dvd

it won't let me to hdparam so i went to yast and enabled dma there. I'll give you a screen shot of what i have done but it still plays choppy.

Here's my yast panel for my ide controlers:

dma appears to be enabled on yuour dvd drive. Try using another app to play your dvds and see if you get the same problem.

I use Xine to play DVD and it works fine for me. I am also exprienced flickering while I used VLC. You may test with Xine. Also I hope that you have libdvdcss library file installed properly in your system.

VLC is the only thin DVD's work on, i don't know how to play them with mplayer but i have a hunch it would work with mplayer
