VLC buffering when network streaming

Hi all,

Is there a way to make VLC buffer the way online players do? For example, when I watch a video on YouTube or on another video streaming site, if I pause the video the video continues buffering online until it buffers the whole video, and even if I'm playing the video it continuously buffers until the whole thing is buffered. That doesn't seem to be the case with VLC when I am streaming a video from online. If I pause the video, VLC only buffers up to a certain point and when I reach that point it pauses and buffers again. Also, if I leave the video paused for an extended amount of time the stream stops completely. Is there a way to fix this on VLC, or is there another media player that is similar to VLC but is better at streaming online videos?

Hi oremor94
Have you tried under VLC the Tools --> Preferences (Show Settings All at the bottom) and then go to the Advanced section at the bottom of this section. There is 'Network caching' in milliseconds. This can be set to a higher number, not sure just how high. Cheers...
