I have been trying to get vlc to record via a usb webcam(logitech quickcam express) but I seemed to have mucked it up. Now I can't even view after choosing 'open capture device' via the file menu. I have been experimenting so much I must have selected something that now stops me viewing the cam. The cam is working as I tried ekiga and well it works. I also heard that vlc can 'motion detect' and then record only at the time it detects. I did check something in the preferences that mentions something about motion detecting and am trying to find where it is right now. Phew there seems to be too much to vlc for me to figure out. This is on my laptop that has ubuntu 6.10.
Yeah i did install zoneminder ages and that is when things went wrong. All of a sudden vlc would not play any videos at all anymore. DVD's, downloaded files, nothing would play. Might wait a while before I try zoneminder again.
