Virus software
 

Does anyone know of a good virus software to use with linux--preferably free. Or is this something I should worry about...I don't hear of many linux viruses.

this is nothing really to worry about....but if you still mind set to have one, do a search on the fourm as new comers always ask this question and even though it isn't really necessary, people do post links to some scanners, and even a simple search on www.google.ca/linux will give you some results...

Several companies do Linux AV systems. Many of them commercial. If you do a search for "clamav" this should turn up an antivirus, it detects but does not clean unfortunately. This is the only free one I have come across. Another option I have heard of is that you can use an existing McAffee product code/key for a downloadable AV from their site for Linux

I don't know of any viruses that run under Linux, however if there are any I am sure they will be free: I have never been charged for a virus yet, not even for MS-Windows viruses.

www.f-prot.com. I use it and it works. It's free for home use, pay for commercial use. It is command line. You also have to install some perl packages to get it to run. Perl IO stringy if memory serves me correctly. You don't need it to protect yourself but you can catch them before spreading any though.

I am guessing that this is for personal use (i.e not on a server). I run clamav (http://clamav.elektrapro.com) in conjunction with the MailScanner system with my Postfix Mailserver. This setup allows me to protect my users from e-mail viruses and spam.
