Lightbulb Virtual resolutions + Magnifier = Higher Resolutions?

I have a small problem with my new laptop. Its screen displays only 1024x768; but I need something bigger (such as 1152x864 or 1400x1050 -better).

I have an idea about this. As the subject suggests, I'm looking for a magnifier program for X. I sould be able to run this program on full screen mode. This magnifier should "zoom out" and scale the virtual resolution to the real monitor resolution. It's zooming out should be smooth also (should not display pixels also).

With a combination with virtual resolution and anyone will be able to work at higher resolutions.

I was not able to find such a program. If anyone would help me finding it someway I would really appreciate. I don't have the knowledge to write programs. This could be the beginning of a new project. Something that will aid people.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

There is no replacement for real resolution. Its kind of like trying to emulate a soundcard by rapidly shutting the system fan on and off. Two system fans! Stereo, woot!

Actually depending on what kind of harddrive you have, you can simulate a subwoofer by rythmically following a song with certain write patterns.
2.1! Awesome!

Well, maybe not quite as bad.
