Ok so maybe this has nothing to do with virtual hosting in apache, basically I wanted to know what steps I have to do to get

website.com/mail
(which is the homepage for logging into our mail server)

to be
mail.website.com

does this have more to do with dns entries rather than apache?


and I would also like to have people put in mail.website.com as their incoming and outgoing mail servers rather than straight up website.com

The web / email server is running Redhat 9 with the newest stable version of apache.

To do what you want involves both DNS and virtual hosting.

First you need to add a DNS alias so that mail.website.com points to website.com. That's as far as you can go with DNS.

Then you have to configure Apache so that it serves different files when accessed via the name website.com versus mail.website.com. This involves using the Apache VirtualHost directive in the httpd.conf file. See the Apache documentation for more details.
