vim colors

I guess my question is just the opposite of everyone elses.

When I putty into my web server's root and go to use vim to edit a file it opens the file with such a horrible garish color scheme that I can not even read half of the diplayed text.

There are BRIGHT Yellow blocks with what look like White letters in them that I can not read. The commented text is such a DARK Blue against a Black background which I feel like would make me go blind if I actually tried to read it.

How do I turn off the color for vim? Or, at least change it to something I can read?

Thanks

Check out these....

http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=625

I think you need to edit ~/.vimrc to make the changes you need...

Hope this helps a bit...

You can find vim color schemes in /opt/kde3/share/vim/vim62/colors/. Try them out until you find one you like. Add it to your ~/.vimrc like this:
:colorscheme murphy (color scheme name without the .vim extension).
