Viewing Print Jobs using telnet/ssh

Currently we are using LP Plus to handle our print jobs on a very old
version of SCO. The main function we need is the ability to view the
print job output over telnet/ssh before releasing them to the printer. We
are going to upgrade our operating system to the newest version of
RedHat Enterprise and will need to replace the LP Plus. OM Plus is the
new version of LP Plus but the cost of OM Plus is astronomical.

Considering that the only functionality I need is to preview the
printouts over telnet/ssh I can't justify spending the money that OM
Plus costs. Are there any open source or less expensive solutions out
there that would give me the ability to preview print jobs over
telnet/ssh before releasing them to a printer?

If not is there another solution like converting the spool files to
html?

Thanks,

Brent

it's possible i haven't understood the problem correctly, but if your print-server is also running linux and exporting the printer as a cups-share, all print jobs are viewable over the net, you don't even need an ssh connection. cups also has an internet page. if you have an apache-server running on the print-server, this is usually <name_of_machine>.631 (by default only viewable from localhost, but this is a standard configuration under /etc/cups/cupsd.conf (if that's where your cupsd.conf happens to be).
