Hi,
Does anyone know how to install drivers for a monitor when Linux is already installed? (I only have text-mode). I wasn't able to configure it during installation. It's a S3 Trio AGP (86C365). I've searched the net for a while, and found out that XFree86 3.3.5. might work, so I tried D/L it, but it was a number of files with a total of more than 400 Mb. Seems a bit much to me, but what do I know. So, is there any other way of getting this card to work, or should I just install another.

Gr,
GoG

You need X windows (or another X server) to do graphical mode. Are you sure that X didn't install? It may be that it just hasn't been configured. Try running xf86config, which is an X configuration tool.

Have installed KDE and GNOME. The problem was first encountered with the configuration of the graphics-card and the monitor during the initial installation of Linux. After a while I got fed up with selecting various Display adaptes, and monitors so I just went on with the installation. Have read threads on other (not so very neat looking boards) from people with the same problem. Drivers, or even the whole card are not supported by S3 (anymore?). Didn't have the same problems when I used another (much older) graphics card. Installation went fine those times. I'll try xf86config though. I forgot to mention that linux doesn't detect the card at installation. I know the max. settings of my monitor.

A totally other subject;

I read something about a Linux version with a Amiga interface, or something, does it excist? I've always been a great Amiga fan.

Is your card listed at http://www.xfree86.org? You may want to try the XF86_S3 server.
I am sure there are multiple Amiga themes around. Just check http://www.themes.org.

Card not supported

Well, I ran xf86config, the card is listed, but not supported. It stated I should update xf86, 'cause a later version would possibly do support it.

I've installed another graphics adapter, and it works. Thanks for the xf86config tip. I didn't know it excisted.
