video4linux and make modules

I'm trying to us a TV tuner on my linux installation, I've had it work before but now it simply doesn't cooperate. I'm running redhat 8 18-14, I go into the source directory for linux and do a "$make xconfigure" and I set video4linux to module. I save the settings and exit, and then run a "$make dep" like it tells you to. Now whenever I run a "$make modules" it gives me this:

make[2]: *** [dummy.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-14/drivers/net'
make[1]: *** [_modsubdir_net] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-14/drivers'
make: *** [_mod_drivers] Error 2

I have literally done NOTHING else to this install, this is the first thing I did off a fresh format. Anyone encounter this before?
