video surveillance monitoring software
Hi
can anybody suggest me a best solution software for video servalance and monitering which runs on unix system. It should have the ability to moniter and record the video file in whenever a movement is detected by the camara. additionally its better if it can detect the motion and follow the motion until the motion goes out from the camaras range (i.e. the system should have the ability to control the camara to follow the movement) Thanx in advance Buddhike G. |
Have a look, it may suit your needs: http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/WebHome Mind you, I'm not sure you can make it run on Unix, although I did see a mention of FreeBSD somewhere...

Zoneminder is a very popular CCTV or monitoring system that allows you to even use very low end affordable web cams. Zoneminder will start recording when the webcam detects any movement and will continue to record until the movement has gone or you can set a specified run time after motion is detected that way you don't end up looking through a 6 hour .mpeg file on your disk and risk the drive getting full. It only records when it sees something and or you can set it to record constantly.
It's known to work rock solid on RPM based distros and also works on Debian and O am sure Gentoo also. |
does it follow up the movement. I mean when the camaradetects a motion does the camara follow the movement within its range.

Motion is in Linux Pro Magazine this month (Issue 83)
http://www.linuxpromagazine.com/issu...who_goes_there Full Article (From the magazine website - that sure was nice of them) http://w3.linux-magazine.com/issue/8..._Detection.pdf I recalled seeing this post about video surveillance when I ran across the article in the magazine thought you might be interested. Same program recommendation made by Dutch Master no less. |
Does this support this software supports the movement follow feature. I mean does it follow the movement when detected.

what would be the best one to satisfy the above requirements ZoneMinder or Motion.
Please suggest according to any experiance. |
I haven't used it myself, but ZoneMinder's description states that it supports: "web and semi-automatic control of Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras using a variety of protocols. It is suitable for use as a home video security system and for commercial or professional video security and surveillance. It can also be integrated into a home automation system via X.10 or other protocols."

Motion is even in the debian stable repos.
man motion http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view.../DownloadFiles Has someone a good how to or working written script for that ? thx #1 Buddhike G LQ Newbie Registered: Jun 2007 Posts: 22 video surveillance monitoring software |
I use Motion on a static logitec camera and it works well, but I haven't used auto-track. I glanced at the motion.conf file and it does have settings for auto-track with Pan/Tilt, so with a bit of configuring it should do what you want.

I take picture using digi stix camera + video for linux api. Store it as bitmap. You can use some motion detection algorithm to make it work. |
