Video software

I'm looking for software that can clean up bad encodes of MPEGs and AVIs. Before I burn them to CD or view them and damage my brain from the badness. I'm also looking for software similar to "DVD Decrypter" and "AutoGK" I've had much success with these tools in the past. Keep in mind this is for legal copies I'm making for myself.

stating the obvious, MPlayer can do all of largely. it's not designed specifically for screwed up files etc... but it does suprisingly well just becuase it's a very thorough encoder.

That's is what I'm really looking for, software that can condition a file to be burned to VCD. And sotware to rip and encode a DVD into Divx.
I suppose I could emulate the two programs with wine, I was just concerned about speed.
