Video screen capture

How to do a video capture from the running desktop?
I've seen this around but don't know how to make it. What's the application
used to do this? Does it require to load some kind of special driver with the X server
or is it made using a simple app?

anyone?
sorry about bumping...

It is easy; just use ksnaphot under kde.
If you play videos by mplayer, then you should configure it to use the x11 video output (-vo x11). Using other video outputs (e.g. the xv one) will result in blank snapshot images.

That's not what i want to do.
Let me explain, i want to make a video of the desktop. A video,
not a snapshot.

I have a program for Windows called FlashCast... is you want to take a look and see if they make a distro for Linux... but its not exactly a video.... it recordes your clicks and makes a video out of that... its kinda ugly but its better than screenies...

but I would like to do that too... record a video of my desktop.....

yeah.
I've seen this on NVIDIA's forum...
I believe it's a simple command to grab input from X and > to an
.avi or some other format with coding on the fly. It's pretty simple, but...

There was a article about that in the latest Linux Journal magazine. I thing the name of the program they used was xvidcap and i think they needed something else called ffmpeg. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7808 I guess you can define a rectangular on the desktop and that is what it captures. It sounds like something your looking for.
