video, mp3 for redhat enterprise v.4


Could anybody please tell me from where to download and install the media plugin for redhat enterprise v.4.

Well, VLC is great once you get the hang of it. I don't know if RHEL would have it available, but try:

# yum -i vlc

If it won't work, you might have to download either the source tarball and compile it yourself, or find an RPM of it somewhere on the web.

yum was not introduced in RHEL (by default) until RHEL5.0.

You can look at Centos' repos VLC will be in there. Centos is RHEL with the logos removed. It is binary compatible.

Even if yum is not part of a default RHEL 4, but rpm certainly is, so installing yum from an RPM package would be the first step.
