Video File is Choppy

I have a single 'avi' file which I've tried playing in mplayer, xine and all the other major video players. But for some reason, unlike my normal avi files, the video plays choppy. When I run mplayer with the '-framedrop' option, it works, but with no sound.

Anyone know what the cause of this problem is? How might I go about fixing it?

thanks

if it's just that one avi file wich is choppy, and other avi files play ok, it could be a codec problem, try to find out wich codec is used and if the players have good support for it. Also, the avi file could be too compressed, or a too high bitrate to handle by your system...
