Video editor for avi or mpeg files (Mepis)

Hi All,

I'm a brand new Linux (Mepis) user from Italy, my hobby is photography and morphing; I'm making short morph videos (avi or mpeg) with WinMoph (not available yet for Linux). I'd like to edit and stick them together, but Kino seems to be unable to read both mentioned file formats. Is there any trick to make them become visible to Kino? Is there any other s/w for quite simple video editing? Please do not suggest Cinelerra which seems to be too heavy to run on my Compaq armada E500 (196 MB RAM)

Thanks a lot in advance for all suggestions!

BR

I know exactly nothing about morphing, but I'm doing some video editing.
Kino works with digital video (dv) only.
People have tried converting other formats to dv, I haven't heard of anybody succeeding. Forget it, kino is not that good.
If Cinelerra is too heavy, you might try:
* Avidemux - it's a bit simple, don't know if it has what you need?
* MainActor - commercial, there is a free trial available for downloading: http://[MainConcept]http://www.mainc...products.shtml

Then there are several more, they don't work for me but obviously for other:
* kdenlive
* lives
* lve

There are also frontends to transcode/mencoder if you need to convert movies, like
* kmenc
* gtranscode

Also, I think you can put movies together from command-line. Look into mplex maybe?
