Video Card will only allow 16 bit colors


I was thinking of changing my color res to 24 but for some reason i am only offered the choice of 16 bit... in windows i am able to use 24 and 32 but only 16 in linux...

anyone know why?

What kind of vid card?
What version of Mandrake?
What version of XFree86? (I think typing "XFree86 --version" will get you that)

i have a i810 chipset for video (onboard video);

mandrake8.1;

xf86 is 4.0.1 i think
