Video capture from window on MDK10

I have a physics simulation program that generates animations using GLUT/Mesa. Are there any programs out there that will record an animation of the program's window (into any format--animated gif/png, .avi, wahtever)?

Also, if there are, can they record at a different speed than realtime? My program is computationally intensive, and sometimes only outputs 5 FPS ... can I grab those five frames per second and play them back at 60 FPS, or record at 30 FPS and discard all but every sixth frame?
