video acceleration ? or what ... please help

Hello everyone, im new here!

Well yesterday i got a monitor for a little bit and i tried to do dual monitors, and because of that, i'm not sure what happened to xorg.conf because now i cannot play any videos, and i think this is because of video acceleration.

When i try to play run totem , this happens

I tried doing composite "0" or something like that but whenever i did that,something changed, the driver being loaded (whether mesa or ati driver) or 3d support.

My system specs:

Pentium d - 2.8GHz
2GB of ram
ATi Radeon x1650 - 256 of ram, GGDR3


Can anyone please advice me of what to do? Thanks

BTW: im not a good linux user, i switched from microcrap about 2 months ago ...

Hi, try taking a look into /var/log/Xorg.0.log (use nano or vi command) and see if there is any info.

Next, you might try using the aticonfig utility to configure the graphics (including the screens) : "aticonfig --initial" (I think) - backup xorg.conf
for more info, read this and aticonfig -h

Also; check that you're using the latest fglrx drivers, they had a bug with the X overlay until not long ago.

oh thanks, i fixed it somehow, it works like a charm now, i forgot to reply that, thanks anyways.

I regret having bought ATI, it looks like nvidia has more support for linux, easier configuration, i installed it on a pc once (nvidia card + celeron D) and only installed it from the YaST reps and it worked fine, but ati is harder and gay, haha anyone wanna trade cards? jk
