vgetty answering calls but hanging up prematurely

Hi all, real quick. I've searched google and haven't found an answer that relates to my situation.

I've got vgetty installed on my Kubuntu box connected via a USB to serial adapter to a Hayes Accura Ext. Speakerphone (chinese model, 5686CN). The modem itself works as vgetty picks up the call when the phone rings after the necessary number of rings. However, it never sends a beep tone and hangs up before recording a message. The log files have not been very helpful in this regard, but here is the relevant output anyway.

I've queried the modem using minicom, and the FCLASS support levels are listed as 0 1 1 0 80. When I type AT#CLA=? into minicom it tells me 0 1 8. I know from this that voice calls are supported, but I'm not sure why it's not sending beeps or recording messages. Where do I look? Thanks

Arturo

It almost appears there is a problem initializing the modem, possibly wrong initialization strings.

This string of modem commands are a generic set of modem commands, I notice the errors relating to FCLASS, maybe you might want to play around with these settings. It could be all together different in China, but wouldn't hurt to try.

This string is usually produced by wvdial for init 2 string. Usually init 1 is ATZ, but this is also for analog modem, it could be different for voice modem.

Quote:
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Maybe search the net for init strings for your Rockwell, I put "voice modem init strings" in the Google search field and found too many results to list here. Might have to narrow it down to "Rockwell voice modem init strings". Because yours appears to be a 36k modem, this web page offered some possibly relevant info for Rockwell.

http://www.chibardun.net/support/modemstrings.htm

Maybe check the vgetty man pages for this -->modem quirks: 0004
