Very slow to start sendmail & sm-client services

My redhat 9 installed on various PCs are very slow to start sendmail & sm-client services during bootup. I ended up disabling them from starting up. Does any one know how to speed them up?

put localdomain, in /etc/hosts:

127.0.0.1 localhost.linix localhost localhost.localdomain

Read the man files for sendmail but still doesn't understand.
