Low connection setting between modem and pc? Crank up the connection setting in Device tab to 115200 maybe.

i tryed that but it doesn't work
maby there is somthing to enable/ dissable in the kernel

Two purposes here

Mine is really slow too, 24K. I hope someone can help. A friend of mine used to get about 40K or so. Maybe I should put windoze on a machine and check it out.

That was first purpose in the post. Here's the second one. BUMP.

:D :D :D

If your connecting at 24k most likely your phone line is on a pair gain and you wont ever connect over 28k.

For the first post, what do you mean its slow? The connection speed is low? Or you are connecting high but low throughput?

Run a speed test then run 'ifconfig' and post the output of both.

matt_w_lambert 08-31-2003 03:24 PM

the speed test link didn't work so i don't know how to do that but
when i dial in it connects at 115200 but the page dosent open when i type www.linuxquestions.com or whatever and when i click on the blinking lights in my system try for kppp I then click on details and it shows the speed that my modem is transfering data
and it shows at the botem that it is only 0.1 to 0.4 on my windows computer it is usuly around 4.5 kbps.
hope that explains it.

OOPS I ment to put linuxquestions.org for an example

ok I got it working I went into the kernel editor thingy in kde and changed a few things around and i went into the redhat-config-network and mesed with that and now it works i thought i had tryed everything but i guess i missed somthing
it is still slow but i think that might be my isp i only pay $5.00/ month i guess i can't commplain

Thanks for the help though:D

You say it connects at 11500. The highest a modem can connect is 53k-56k. 11500 is probably the serial port speed. I understand kppp may be reporting that for the speed (which is good since that is what the serial port should be at).

Then you say when you try and go to linuxquestions.org it doesnt open,
then you say its going at .5 kb/s.

Yeah, that site is down. Try the speed test hereand here

It seems like you have a wrong init string. What modem do you have and what string did you use/ is kppp using? Internal or External modem? serial, usb, pci, isa?

That wont do anything except change a few lines in your .config file if you have one. I really dont think you should mess about with trying to recompile your kernel just yet.
You might need to install the kernel sources though, to install a modem driver update.
