Various Small Visual Quandries - X11/TwinView/Beryl/KBFX/Superkaramba

Boy, what an intimidating thread title.

Any bleeding edge users like myself will probably start running through long mental lists of problems that may arise when mixing and matching software so graphically involved as the above, but this paragraph is here to say that my problems are few and far, yet still not satisfactory.

In theory, X11 works quite nicely with TwinView, which works fairly well with Beryl, which shouldn't have any problems with KBFX or Superkaramba. (This is my last time repeating how wrong that can be - that stress is lifted.)

First, a little more hardware/software background is an order. Here's what I'm looking at:

> Gentoo 2007.0 i386/686
> A custom 2.6.20-r4 kernel
> X11 1.3.0 (4/19/2007)
> nVidia Drivers 100.14.11
> KDE 3.5.7
> Beryl 0.2.1 (Comments on Compiz Fusion anyone?)
> KBFX 0.4.9.3.1
> Superkaramba 0.42
> Plenty of horsepower

Now down to business. My questions are as follows, and being the last few gripes I have, I would give practically anything to get them answered:

> How on earth/heaven/hell/wherever can I get KDE to stop drawing windows across both screens without using X11's Xinerama?
I've heard things about nVidia's drivers supporting their own Xinerama extension, but I've no idea how to configure it on Gentoo. (Just ran `emerge kdesktop --reinstall changed-use` - waiting to post this so I can restart.)

> Is there any sort of shortcut to switch MetaModes within X (aside from using nvidia-settings?)
Ctrl+Alt++/- just toggles (s)panning.

> Does anyone know of a bug/fix involving the scroll buttons on KBFX glitching?
(Screenshot)

> And lastly, LiquidWeather 14.7 for Superkaramba is by far the most unstable software on my system. After some arbitrary period of time it goes blank to say "Reloading theme..." until time's end. And after restarting Superkaramba in any way, it either disappears from the desktop (saying it's still running) or disappears from Superkaramba entirely. Any insight (even another example of this behavior) would be appreciated here.

Many many thanks to those who can lend me a word or two on these subjects. They're really starting to bug me.

Cheers,
Brian

Why is it that you don't want to use Xinerama? Maybe you could at least solve one of your many problems:.;)

X11's Xinerama module causes some serious issues, like disabling direct rendering on the second display, which in my case is dedicated to videos, fullscreen games, and the like.

Luckilly, I did manage to get the nVidia Xinerama extension working, which has made me much happier. In the end I had to rebuild my whole system after enabling the Xinerama USE flag, but all's well that ends well.

KBFX will no longer suffer from that glitch I was talking about either. I spoke with the developers yesterday and as it turns out the bug also applied to certain compositing effects of KWin's built-in features. A few comparisons of the source code later, the devs found the cause and commited a fix to SVN today :D

The other two problems still stand though, for now.
