Question Various issues (RHL 9.0)

Hi,

I am new to Linux and have some queries:

1. I have installed Apache 2.0.48 on RHL 9, but the page that the apache server on my linux machine serves up is still coming from the older installation that came with rhl 9. Can someone tell me how I can make the system use the newer version of Apache?

2. i have installed VNC Server on the Linux machine and VNC Viewer on my Windows XP PC. I am also able to view the Linux Desktop on my PC. However, what I see is a low colour XWindows style interface and not the GNOME interface that I can normally see on my Linux machine. How can I bring up the GNOME interface on my Windows PC?

3. How can I set Netscape 7.1 (installed on my Linux machine) as the default browser that will display HTML pages?

4. Are there any chat applications for Linux?

That's it for now.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with the above queries.

Thanks and regards,

Ani.

i can answer number 4 and take a stab at number 3

number 4. YES! there are lots of chat applications gaim(does most protocols), everybuddy(does most protocols), bitchX(irc),and many many more, if you need a specific protocol go to www.freshmeat.net and search for the name of its windows counterpart, i also think trillian works through wine but i like gaim more, if your looking for a suggestion go gaim and bitchX

number 3 i assume you mean in your file manager? there should hopefully be a option in your kde/gnome menu if your using either of those, if not then please clarify your question

Hi,

Thanks for clearing up 4.

About 3, yes, I think I got what you meant. I'll try it out and get back to you.

Thanks once again.

Regards,

Ani.
