Using QEmu

Is it possible to use QEmu to run an installation program on a CD to install an OS into a .img file and, if so, what's the command?

I've looked at the documentation, but that's mostly an explanation of various odd parameters, and tried googling for a how-to, but to no avail.

You need to mount the CD within the QEMU hosted OS:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=503643

Most of the nice QEMU front-ends make this pretty straightforward. Once you mount the CD to the QEMU image, you can do anything you would normally do with it.

If what you're looking for is how to make QEMU *boot* from a CD so that you can run say, a windows install, check this out:
http://www.hermann-uwe.de/blog/howto...an-using-qemu/

The boot from CD command is like this: qemu -hda /path/to/xp.cow -boot d -cdrom /dev/cdrom -m 384 -localtime
