Using laptop as a keyboard/mouse for a standalone PC over LAN?

I have a remote PC, which normally does not have a keyboard/mouse connected to it. It is connected to living room telly. What I would like to do is access the machine and send keyboard and mouse signals. I do not wish to use VNC or such to import whole desktop - I only want to "dock" into the machine and use my laptops mouse and keyboard and look at the telly for the stuff I am doing. Is there a way to do this?
