Using Evolution and Gmail IMAP inbox email filtering.

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hi, I'm using ubuntu 7.10 and evolution as my email client. I have set up just one account in evolution and this my gmail IMAP account. I can receive and send emails without issue.

In the account preferences/receiving options tab I've selected the "Apply filters to new messages in INBOX on this server".

However the email filters that I have setup do not work automatically. Yet if I select an email in the inbox of the gmail account and hit "CTRL-Y" the filtering rules I've setup move the email to the correct folder. However it is a real pain having to select each email and then press "CTRL-Y".

Any ideas on how to get the email to be automatically filtered as they enter in the inbox?.

Cheers,
Martin.

you can't "Upload" filters to gmail from a client, like you might be able to do in exchange or something. Personally I'd just use gmail directly to set filters to assign tags.

I'm not trying to "upload" the filter rules to gmail, I want filter rules that I've setup in evolution to be applied when evolution downloads the email headers.

Searching around some more I've come two across two gnome/evolution bug reports that appear to be the same issue.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368417
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444503
So it looks like it has been fixed in an upstream version and I guess will eventually appear in a future version of ubuntu.

The suggestion to setup the filters in gmail is the workaround I'm now using, so thanks for this good idea.

Hello,

My wife is having this exact problem. She's got at least 10 filters set up in evolution to handle emails from several online groups. The filters that are not working for her are the "delete" filters, i.e., the ones that say move the messages directly into the trash.
