Using CPIO on Oracle file under Fedora

Running Fedora Core 1, trying to cpio -idmv <filename>
Downloaded three cpio files from Oracle, 9i database. Instructions say to gunzip and cpio them. Gunzip works fine but after running cpio, the command never completes. The system doesn't hang either. Any advice?
Also tried to do the same on a Mandrake box, same results.
