using bc to subtract hexdemical


Heres my code thus far :
Code:
test=$(echo "ibase=16; 403a8000-403a9000" | bc -l)
This outputs the following error :

(standard_in) 1: parse error
(standard_in) 1: parse error

What am i doing wrong?
