using 'Smart Common Input Method platform (SCIM)' in Debian jessie

i installed 'scim' through synaptic package management in Debian 'Jessie' in order to input chinese characters. installation went well, no error.

I used to be able to launch scim by pressing control+space in debian squeeze& wheezy.
but i now couldn't figure out how to launch the application in 'Jessie'. control+space doesn't do anything, and if i typed 'scim' from command line, it displays some info and just hangs there.

any suggestions?

And what information was that? Maybe it indicates the nature of your problem.

here's the output of 'scim' at command prompt:

Code:

erdos@thinkpad:~$ scim
Smart Common Input Method 1.4.14

Launching a SCIM daemon with Socket FrontEnd...
Loading simple Config module ...
Creating backend ...
Loading socket FrontEnd module ...
Starting SCIM as daemon ...

GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.14

after that there's a small keyboard icon appeared on the taskbar, but i can't bring up the interface for inputting chinese characters. left clicking on the icon doesn't do anything, by right-clicking on the icon, i can bring out a menu, with the scim setup on the top, i checked setup, all seems fine, with IME engine set 'pinyin', the hotkey trigger - set at 'contl+space'.

this used to be straight forward process in debian6/7 by pressing 'contrl+space' to bring up the language input interface.

Does this mean that scim expects you to use pinyin as the input? You were talking about inputting Chinese characters?

Can you explain what exactly you are trying to do. What is the input and what is the output you expect?
