User space client server model process restart basics..?

Hello:

Newbie question here about Linux client/server models and I guess IPC in general. What type of event connection managers are there available?

I want two processes on the same local system to run as client/server. Only a small amount of data will be communicated between the two processes.

Is there a mechanism in place to manage that connection in case either the client process or the server process gets restarted?

Basically, if there is a client/server connection established but then broken based upon one side going through a process restart, I want to have some sort of handler to be able to recognize there was a client/server type connection between the two processes. Then I want the handler to re-establish the client/server connection. I'd like this to be achieved given the process restart happens either either the server process side as well as the client process side.

Thanks!

it depends on what parameters you want the server to manage the client, one thing is, in both, there is only one manager that will manage the other, and that is the server, the client cannot manage the server, so for the process you are talking about, be aware that there is no mechanism that can be used to manage both in a two-way traffic mode. Only one-way. secondly, you need to inform us what process you want to be managed, is it cashing?,client pc restarting? be clear on which process you want to manage because there happens to be different mechanisms for the server to manage the client, in different ways

Indeed, how are they communicating: tcp socket, udp socket, Unix socket, shared-mem ??
Are they both running as the same user and/or same group?
