Hopefully someone can help me - I am a newbie and installed latest Ubuntu (KDE). I have downloaded the latest Usenext (newsreader) client for Linux. I have downloaded the one that it told me for Ubuntu and it was called Usenext.deb. I have extracted the files and they are now situated in my home folder. the files are called
control.tar.gz
data.tar.gz
debian-binary
can someone please tell me what to do next to install this client please
it's usenet, not usenext. tar -zxvf both the .tgz files *in a subdirectory* somewhere. running the debian binary program (if necessary chmod +x it) should do something.
i dont know what program this is, why dont you try Pan? (for a gui). and theres trn i think, for CLI.
it IS actually UseNEXT and not Usenet that I am referring to. It is a subscription based newsgroup that uses a client called Usenext. I have used Bittorrent instead yesterday and this seems to work ok, so I will persevere with this for now and see what happens
http://www.usenext.com/
use the "more info" link (the small one - bottom left) and you quickly know what it is about..."unlimited" download from alt.binaries... - has really nothing to do with news
Go to the UseNext website, login with your credentials top right. Once logged in, click on the software tab up top, on the bottom right will be a download option for Linux "Ubuntu etc., "download", "open" and your software manager will bring it up and ask if you want to install. Done.
