Use Mobile phones to connect to the Internet

Hi,

How can I use ordinary mobiles (GSM or CDMA) with voice and data features to connect to the Internet from a normal Linux PC.

What I exactly mean is PC -> Mobile -> Internet.

I want the mobile to act as a interface (Modem) to connect to the internet.
The reason is most of the time I stay in areas where there are no Wi-Fi hotspots so If I need to access the web, can I use my mobile to gain the internet access. Is it Possible?

If anyone has done it before or if you have any suggestions please do post it here. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

K.Karthick Annamalai

Yes, it's possible, but I've never tried doing it on my Linux machine. It works with Windows with my carrier, Sprint, but you have to pay extra to have your phone act as a modem so that your PC can dial-out.

Thanks Micro420. I have asked my Service provider to enable data service. Do you think it will work with Linux though? I hope it does..

Cheers!!
