USB external drive question

I just purchased an external USB drive that I would like to use with both my linux boxes and my XP boxes.

Windows wants to format the drive as NTFS. Linux would (probably) prefer ext3. If I go with NTFS, I will need to update the kenel and stuff with linux. If I use ext3, I would have to get (if it is available) a windows ext3 driver.

What would you recommend?

Thanks
