Urgent help needed: Problem installing Oracle 9i Software on FC-3

Hello Everyone,
I am having problem installing Oracle 9i oin my Fedora Core-3 system. Everything goes well, as I've already installed all required packages, The Universal Installer appears and collect all the information required, but the last screen gives a problem(just before it should ask the database SID etc...), It says.
Error: You do not have sufficient privileges to write to specified path in component Database Configuration Assistant 9.2.0.1.0. Installation con't continue.
o Stop installation of all componets.
o Stop installation of this component only.

I am running oracle installation, 'oracle' as user and installing the database software in oracle' home directory, where I think it has all the necessary permissions.
Please help. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Varun Narang.

Not sure but I think you may need to do the install as root. As I recall Oracle places some config files in /var and possibly /etc and neither of these would allow Oracle user to write as they are intended for system files.

Thanks for the help,
But as far as Oracle installation is concerned, I never know that this can be done using "root" as user. The OUI won't start, if you try running it as root.
I am getting some idea from your saying
"....Oracle places some config files in /var and possibly /etc ...."
if such is the case, then please let me know, if there are some other directories where oracle places it's Installtion files, specially for Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, where the oracle installation is giving me the problem,
Thanks for great help.

Varun Narang.
