Ok, for the most part I'm still running gcc 3.3.5, and have the files for gcc 4.1.x (4.1.0 I think). I also need to install the new Wine, but without gcc I'm missing a lib, as for firefox as well. I'd rather install via RPM, but I have never used build, and finding some instruction has proven difficult for one reason or another. Anyone mind giving me some help on this?
I thought I had explained. Oh well.
Firefox and Wine both need a lib from GCC.
I would rather install GCC via RPM because it seems like it would just make life easier.
KDE I'd just like some info on upgrading it. I havn't done much in the way of upgrading outside of Yast2 Online Update, and KDE is kind of a big program with alot of small packages that go into it, and it seems a bit overwhelming to someone who would rather not have to reinstall Linux.
Yes, I'm a semi-. Semi because I can start it and do something with it besides ask for help.
Any more info needed, please just ask
My suggestion to you is to use your search engine and find out how to update your system files with rpms. There's a whole bunch of sites where you can set up repos to upgrade.

Ok. Post which library they are looking for and we can better advise you on where to get the version of gcc you need. What version do you have installed right now? You mention gcc-3.3.5 and 4.1.0. Which version are you actually using as your compiler?
If you can post the output from running Firefox or wine, I think that would be best.
I have gcc 3.3.5 installed atm, and figure upgrading wouldn't hurt in any case. The lib is
libstdc++.so.6
I need that for both Wine and Firefox 1.5.x.
I got GCC from the gcc website, but even Googling GCC 4.1.0 RPM comes up with nothing but gnat-gcc-4.1.0-SuSe.., but I'm not sure if that is what I want to use or not. I want to be able to compile C/C++ at least, and it says Ada (which honestly makes little sense to me), but never mentions being for C/C++, plus knowing how to do this myself would be handy in either case.
I found a Firefox RPM, but still need the lib. They both need the same lib, and gcc doesn't provide an outside download other then getting the lib through gcc itself.
Also, as for speaking of updating KDE, any ideas on what would be the best approach? There is alot there to download and/or install, and it is a bit overwhelming....
