upgrading kde?

Hi,
I using Redhat 9 with KDE 3.1-12 Redhat and I was wondering what would be a good way to go about upgrading KDE. I was using apt-get and it seemed to update some parts of KDE but didn't do the others. I dont know if this caused problems or not, but for example, the kweather and some other applets no longer showed up on the when I placed them on the kicker. There is a slot where the applet should be, but no icon or configuration is there; I can only add/remove the invisible icon.

I figured i'll just download all the SRPMS to the latest KDE, build and upgrade the entire thing myself. Does this sound like a good idea or do any of you recommend something else? Thanks

"I figured i'll just download all the SRPMS to the latest KDE,"

The binary rpms would be easier than the source rpms. You also need Qt, arts, and two lib packages.

If you want to build KDE from source KDE has created Konstruct which will build KDE from source. I have never tried it.
